Preservation of culture & heritage

It is painful that the awkward incidents happened on 29 Oct 2012 in Ramu Upazila in Cox’s Bazar badly affected Country’s long-practiced of communal harmony and injured the sprit and heart of peace-loving community. After that incidents BITA organized field visit to the affected area to make solidarity and recognize the significant points need to be addressed. In the progress, as per suggestion of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dhaka, BITA has conducted a survey to assess the current situation and area of intervention to mend the sores & aching of cultural life & practices of Buddhist community. The survey findings revealed the history of such affected area is Ukhiar Ghona under Kawarkhop Union of Ramu Upazila. The temple named as Jetban Buddha Bihar situated at Ukhiar Ghona has been serving a hub of community’s religious, cultural and social actions. The Jetban Bihar Executive committee availed the rights through education program covers the poor & extreme poor families who are not school goers & unable to arrange private coaching due to financial constrains. Centering the Bihar, cultural motivational activities started by community youth people. The sharing with community & Bihar executive committee and survey findings revealed that measures and on based the participatory decisions BITA seeks support from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to Construct a infrastructure at temple place to restoration and preservation of cultural heritage at Ramu.

Objective of the Project:

  • To increase infrastructural facilities to preserve cultural heritage & archaeological objects.
  • To add on support to continue education among the children of underprivileged community.
  • To enhance community’s initiatives in restoration & reconstruction of historic religious institution.

The Project in titled “Supporting Restoration & Preservation of culture and Heritage in Ramu” was approved by the Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany, Dhaka & deed of agreement was signed with BITA.
